摘要: Objective: High as well low levels of IGF1 have been associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The relationship (components of) the metabolic syndrome could help to clarify thiscontroversy.Theaimsofthisstudywere:i)toinvestigatetheassociationofIGF1concentration prevalent syndrome; and ii) examine role in between incident CVD during 11 years follow-up. Methods: Data were used from Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam, a cohort study representativesample Dutcholder population (R65years). Datawereavailable in1258 subjects. Metabolic was determined using definition US National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III. ascertained by self-reports mortality data. Results: Levels fourth quintile compared lowest (odds ratio: 1.59, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.09‐2.33). middle up highest positively high triglycerides women. not mediator U-shaped CVD. Both subjects without (hazard ratio (HR) 1.75, CI 1.12‐2.71) (HR 2.28, 1.21‐4.28) demonstrated increased risks Conclusions: In older people, high-normal are prevalentmetabolic triglycerides. Furthermore, this suggests presence different pathomechanisms for both European Journal Endocrinology 168 393‐401
