Depression and type 2 diabetes mellitus: what we can learn from the Trinidad and Tobago experience.

摘要: In Trinidad and Tobago, a developing nation in the Caribbean, prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been self-reported at 16.7%, which places it top six countries Americas. Among those with T2DM three clinics Trinidad, average depression is as high 26.8%. Survey audit data from primary healthcare services have identified that current approach to combating epidemic not worked. These services, although extremely successful ‘classical’ public health paradigm where immunisation maternal child are provided, fail situation chronic disease (itself disease). It possible our efforts hampered by lack attention depressive challenges faced diabetic patients. This article provides evidence international regional research argues for shift greater patient-centred, rather than population-centred, system Trinidad.
