摘要: The Sikhs belong to a heterogeneous community that incorporates diverse identities and religious practises. However, the identity based on Khālsā Sikh emerged at end of seventeenth century in Punjab is today represented as ‘ideal’ form. requires maintenance distinct external symbols (known panj kakārs or Five Ks). This study seeks challenge established view Ks were first promulgated by tenth Guru, Gobind Singh 1699. It argued convention actually developed over three centuries was finally crystallised during nineteenth Sabha reform movement. To argue this, research employs critical historiography deconstruct texts examine cultural conditions influenced formulation Ks.
