摘要: The mechanics of great subduction earthquakes are influenced by the frictional properties, structure, and composition plate-boundary fault. We present observations structure shallow source fault 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake tsunami from boreholes drilled Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 343 343T. Logging-while-drilling core-sample show a single major accommodated large slip rupture, as well nearly all cumulative interplate motion at drill site. localization deformation onto limited thickness (less than 5 meters) pelagic clay is defining characteristic fault, suggesting that may be regionally important control on tsunamigenic earthquakes.
