The Unsilencing of Military Wives: Wartime Deployment Experiences and Citizen Responsibility

摘要: One of therapists’ contemporary moral imperatives is to support American service members and their families regardless personal position on the Global War Terrorism. way therapists can respond this imperative by seeking understand Army wives’ experiences during husbands’ wartime deployments. Therefore, study utilized a combination individual interviews with wives reflecting team military civilians explore experiences. Two main themes were identified: experience was an emotional roller coaster they felt silenced —and could be unsilenced—in interactions civilians. Therapists working should (a) normalize roller-coaster experience; (b) encourage recognize negative positive influencers idiosyncratic coping skills; (c) civilian–military connections; (d) as civilian therapist, seek connection proactively showing support.
