摘要: In 1974, two clearcuts, shelterwoods, and sets of eight group selections (equally divided between elevation zones) were harvested on the Coram Experimental Forest in northwestern Montana. Four levels tree residue utilization compared. Moist fuels approximately half each area poorly burned by prescribed fires September 1975. Natural regeneration these treatments was compared 1979, 1987, 1992. Regeneration western larch (Larix occidentalis Nutt.) began 1975 soil exposed during yarding logs continued mostly 1977 1979 scarified sites other areas. Competing vegetation curtailed establishment seedlings much past sites. Few Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) regenerated before but aggressively established through Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii Parry) subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa (Hook.) Nutt) is increasing slowly throughout area. Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla (Raf.) Sarg.) red cedar (Thuja plicata Donn.) also regenerate moister areas lower units.
