摘要: Abstract From 1986 to 1989 a series of cruises were conducted in the central Mediterranean Sea, determine distribution and relative abundance cetaceans. Observation sessions lasted for total 2433 h. The presence animals was assessed visually. Relative sighting frequencies among species subdivisions study area calculated, based on observation time. Seven observed, including, order decreasing frequency: bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), striped (Stenella coeruleoalba), fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus), sperm (Physeter catodon), Risso's (Grampus griseus), common (Delphinus delphis) long‐finned pilot (Globicephala melas). highest occurred Ligurian‐Corsican Sea; cetaceans scarcest Tyrrhenian Sea northern Adriatic Sea.
