摘要: In the summer of 1816, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, then eighteen years old, began to write novel Frankenstein after she and her lover Percy Bysshe Shelley took part in a ghost-story competition at Lord Byron's villa by Lake Geneva. Over next nine months -- period which saw their return England autumn 1816 subsequent marriage (with Percy) drafted entire form materially different from two standard editions 1818 1831 were based on later fair copy. Until now, no one has been able read what herself initially wrote this original draft novel. Going back unique manuscript text held Bodleian Library, Charles E. Robinson teased out Shelley's amendments, isolating them story hand.
