摘要: Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common affecting both men and women in Australia. The illness related treatments can cause distressing adverse effects, impact on emotional psychological well-being, adversely affect social, occupational, relationship functioning. Current models of follow-up fail to address complex needs arising after treatment completion. Strategies better prepare support survivors are urgently required. Objectives This study aimed develop pilot test an innovative supportive care program for people with potentially curative CRC. Methods SurvivorCare intervention was developed by a multidisciplinary team using 3 key principles: (1) promote patient involvement engagement; (2) specific individual patients, (3) use evidence-based strategies well-being reduce sequelae. It also addressed 4 essential components survivorship planning, defined US Institute Medicine. Ten completed questionnaires satisfaction interviews before receiving intervention. Results comprises educational materials (booklet, DVD, question prompt list), tailored plan, nurse-led end-of-treatment consultation, telephone calls. Pilot data demonstrated that considered appropriate, relevant, useful. Conclusions well-received, comprehensive will now be evaluated randomized controlled trial aiming distress unmet improve quality life CRC survivors. Implications practice If shown effective, it possible quickly broadly disseminate this model care.
