Dynamics of the Iron-Containing Core in Crystals of the Iron-Storage Protein, Ferritin, through Mössbauer Spectroscopy

摘要: $^{57}\mathrm{Fe}$ $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray resonance-absorption spectra in crystals of the iron-storage protein, ferritin, display above 265\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K, addition to a normal quadrupole doublet, wide Lorentzian wings extending velocities \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 2 cm/sec. The results are interpreted terms dynamics iron-containing core undergoing bounded diffusive motion within "cage," characterized by jump probability per unit time about 0.5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{8}$ ${\mathrm{sec}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and mean-square displacement 4.8\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ ${\mathrm{\AA{}}}^{2}$ at 298\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K.
