摘要: Despite being categorized as ecologically flexible primates because of their broad geographic distribution and the diversity habitats in which they are found, howler monkeys face serious threats extinction throughout range. Information reviewed this chapter indicates that high human population growth rates prevalent Alouatta range countries, creating important demands for land food production provisioning other goods services population. Recent global market cattle crops also exert additional pressures upon habitats. These interactive processes have resulted continuous habitat loss majority countries. Such takes place context levels poverty low development. On average, it is estimated about 60 % populations exist outside protected area boundaries, suggesting conservation efforts needed at landscape level. An data vacuum exists species, with 58 published studies providing information on only two 14 recognized species Alouatta. Moreover, 50 records come from three a many regions localities where present. Key gains represented by increases number natural areas but more research boundaries. A framework basic diagnostic incorporates social dimension problem presented guideline scientific political attention.
