Measurement of methanol emissions from Australian wildfires by ground‐based solar Fourier transform spectroscopy

摘要: Abstract We report the first atmospheric column measurements of methanol made by ground-based solar Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy. The were through smoke plumes over South EasternAustralia during Austral summers 2001/2002 and 2002/2003. There is a strong correlation betweenthe measured amounts simultaneous co-located aerosoloptical depth. An emission factor for from Australian forest fires 2.3 ± 0.8 grams per kilogram ofdry fuel consumed estimated use correlations carbon monoxide with depth literature values monoxide. This agrees well literaturevalues emissions extra-tropical elsewhere in world. Methanol clearly animportant volatile organic product an similar to formaldehyde’s andapproximately half that methane.
