摘要: Abstract The stratigraphic sequences of numerous Palaeolithic sites Central and Southern Italy, very rich in both archaeological palaeontological remains, have also recorded Pleistocene volcanic events through ash deposits (tephra). They allow the establishment an accurate chronological framework by comparing results obtained 40Ar/39Ar dating method on single K-feldspar crystals, with those derived from ESR ESR/U-series analyses fluvial bleached quartz tooth enamel respectively. Since 2009, these three methods were hence applied samples several Middle Italy including levels (from west to east): La Polledrara di Cecanibbio, Isoletta, (Latium), Guado San Nicola, Isernia Pineta (Molise), Valle Giumentina (Abruzzo) Venosa Notarchirico (Basilicata). results, covering a time range 350 660 ka, prove that such multi-method approach when possible is essential constrain chronology each site recognition specific limitations due lack for or complex geochemical histories teeth rendering difficult method. Despite limitations, globally agreement chronology, while dates can be underestimated oldest sites. In cases, isochron attests however quite good reliability palaeodosimetric reconstruction observed age underestimation could related other factors affecting determination.
