What makes urban forest governance successful? – A study among Canadian experts

摘要: Abstract Recent years have seen a growing body of research on urban forest governance. However, there has been limited empirical potential factors that contribute to the success governance arrangements, models, and actions. The present study investigates which are considered most important (and prioritised) by forestry experts in Canada. It also explores what ways practitioners would like see evaluated. Starting from list 39 identified through comprehensive review North America, Delphi approach was used achieve agreement between participating experts. Thirty-two involved four selected Canadian municipalities were asked participate. Out these, 19 participated study. Experts saw ‘financial resources’ as factor, followed ‘data-driven decision making’ ‘goals, objectives, targets’. When they prioritize when (re)developing programs, agreed same factors. Suggestions methods indicators assessing included, for example, tracking resources allocation expenditures having multiyear funding (for resources’) using an inventory public and/or private lands, streets, parks, etc., i-Tree or other similar analytical GIS software making’). Finally, among biggest challenges had faced participants listed main themes: 1) various stages planning implementation; 2) gaining support others including departments, community at large, non-governmental organizations; 3) pressures development greenfield areas; 4) establishing laws policy.
