摘要: Abstract Empirical recordings of ground motions featuring large amplitudes acceleration or velocity play a key role in defining the maximum levels motion required for design engineering projects, view their potentially very destructive nature. They also provide valuable insights as to nature tails ground-motion distribution. The present paper reviews interpretations put forward dataset selected value PGA (⩾1 g) PGV (⩾100 cm/s), and attempts classify causative physical processes according uniform nomenclature. aim study is identify what extent large-amplitude are predictable, by separating scenarios that could generally be encountered foreseen using current knowledge involved earthquake generation propagation, such particular features recording site, from occurrences related unforeseeable characteristics source path.
