摘要: The issues pertaining to ungulates and vegetation in national parks embody the essence of a broad debate about purposes approaches park management. Parks have always been thought as preserves natural environments, but valued primarily for their recreational cultural attributes. Manipulation resources enhance these values was unquestioned. Today are increasingly biological attributes, providing remnants ecosystems, reservations species diversity, reservoirs genetic variety. Burgeoning ungulate populations impinging on some values. There is increasing need intervention control native populations. principal this involve concepts herbivore-vegetation interaction, regulation, ecosystem stability. I argue that attempts resolve science not successful. Specifically, we cannot reject hypothesis regulation functioning Neither can burgeoning fluctuating within bounds allow continued Thus, it inappropriate base decision intervene scientific understanding. Intervention may be warranted but, at present, basis such must largely political.
