摘要: Aims The aims of this study were: a) to describe the pathological and laboratory findings in a case series stranding mortality associated with ingestion large amounts sea urchins loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), b) alert veterinarians biologists involved turtle conservation cause and/or death. Methods six loggerheads studied were stranded on coasts Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, between 2008 2015. Post mortem studies included pathological, microbiological, urchin species identification procedures. Results All showed severe intestinal impaction caused by urchins, mainly affecting colon caudal half small intestine. Histologically, focal fibrinonecrotic enteritis was diagnosed two turtles. In remaining turtles, lesions ranged from mild desquamation epithelium congestion blood vessels lamina propria, submucosa, muscular serosa, edema. Vibrio sp. isolated spleen mucosa which had been diagnosed. five all remains fragments long-spined (Diadema africanum); last contained mixture (90%) purple (Sphaerechinus granularis) (10%) remains. Conclusions Although prevalence low (< 1.6%) compared other causes, continued overfishing anthropogenic climate change could increase its incidence. Intestinal should be differential diagnosis gastrointestinal diseases possible toxic effect some also investigated.
