摘要: Background:  Efavirenz is associated with neuropsychiatric side effects. The consequences of using efavirenz in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients mental illness has not been conclusively established, the concern being that may worsen condition an already mentally ill patient. absence guidelines and lack evidence for use this special population lead to uncertainty and, as a result, varying practices clinical setting Aim:  To determine experiences healthcare professionals caring people living HIV (PLWH) who are efavirenz, effects management thereof. Setting:  Eastern Cape, South Africa. Method:  A qualitative, descriptive, exploratory design was used understand phenomenon under study share participants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted. data analysed thematic framework analysis coded by researcher well independent coder. Results:  There conflicting feelings concerning PLWH active illnesses. Some willing prescribe whilst others not. All participants indicated further elucidation on possible suggested strategies would be useful. Conclusion:  The expansion African National Guidelines Treatment should include descriptions caused antiretrovirals thereof empower make informed decisions regarding patient care PLWH.
