摘要: The synthesis, sorting and organization of carbon nanotubes are major challengestoward future applications. This chapter reviews recent advances in these topics, addressing both the bulk production processing nanotubes, theirorganization into ordered structures, such as fibers, aligned arrays on surfaces. The synthetic methods reviewed with emphasis current advancestoward mass selective synthesis. New approaches for ofcarbon by structure properties described context thespecific physical or chemical interactions at play, referring to characterizationmethods contribution Jorio et al. Recent theorganization fibers reviewed, including methodsbased spinning from solution, dry forests, directly gasphase during growth. surfaces,as a critical prerequisite toward applications nanoelectronics, isreviewed particular given synthesis vertically andhorizontally arrays. Vertically growth has been recently boosted bythe development highly efficient catalytic processes. Horizontally alignedgrowth surfaces can yield whole new array carbon-nanotube patterns, with interesting potential Differentmechanisms horizontally include field- flow-directedgrowth, well developed surface-directed onsingle-crystal substrates epitaxial approaches. proposed mechanismspertinent each technique discussed throughout this review, astheir aspects progress.
