摘要: A long-standing question in GIScience is whether geographic information systems (GIS) facilitates an adequate quantifiable representation of the concept place. Considering difficulties quantifying elusive concepts related to place, several researchers focus on more tangible dimensions human understanding The most common approaches are semantic enrichment spatial and holistic conceptualization notion However, these give emphasis either space or meaning, they mainly exist as without practically proven usable artifacts. partial answer this problem was proposed by function-based model that treats place functional space. This paper focuses primarily level composition, describing formalizing it a rule-based framework with following objectives: (a) contribute formalization efforts its integration within GIS (b) maintain properties intertwined operationalization potential illustrated example identifying shopping areas urban region. results show able capture all malls well other not explicitly labeled such but still function similarly mall.
