摘要: GLOBAL e-MENTORING: OVERCOMING VIRTUAL DISTANCE FOR AN EFFECTIVE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP by NANCY PHILIPPART May 2014 Advisor: Dr. Ratna Babu Chinnam Major: Industrial Engineering Degree: Doctor of Philosophy Mentoring can enhance an employee’s career development and advancement but traditional face-to-face mentoring has become less relevant because globalization, increased employee mobility technology-enabled work. A new model enabled technology emerged to meet the needs today’s complex, fast changing global workplace. Although e- several advantages over mentoring, absence regular interactions requires different strategies develop effective relationship. Moreover, additional complexities arise when this virtual is global. This research utilizes construct distance, “psychological separation” that been found impact performance outcomes geographically dispersed, mediated teams (Sobel Lojeski, 2006; Sobel Lojeski & Reilly, 2008; 2010) understand effectiveness e-mentorships. Research results support hypothesis distance negatively related mentorship measured as mentor mentee satisfaction with perception on mentee’s career. Several enablers were also identified having potential mitigate thereby improving e-mentorship effectiveness. Three four investigated
