摘要: In computer networks using wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), it is often necessary to extend the length of a given WDM path beyond that single segment whose Is limited by link budget. While wavelength-flattened optical amplifiers are most obvious solution, this paper calls attention simple (albeit less efficient) alternative works for any number wavelength channels, but only modest segments and bit rates. This scheme substitutes each amplifier stage multiwavelength 2R remodulator consisting demultiplexor, followed wavelength-by-wavelength zero-crossing detectors, then remodulation wavelength, finally back onto fiber. Theory experimental results confirm usefulness primitive technique, which can also be used add-and-drop links, routing or conversion in scalable networks, internetwork gateways, other applications.
