摘要: Abstract Context Understanding natural temporal changes in Mediterranean rivers with contrasting flow regimes relation to those of temperate may prove helpful predicting effects climate change on aquatic biodiversity. Goal We aimed compare variability taxonomic and trait compositions nearly two climatic regions varying address the future biodiversity reference conditions. Methods analysed biological using Foucard multivariate method within-site levels evolution within-date spatial patterns. In addition, we assessed functional diversity community specialization. Results Our results reveal (i) highly fluctuating environments region, particularly intermittent rivers, which lead higher both benthic invertebrate assemblages, marked synchrony streams linked characteristics; (ii) degrees richness associated relative (iii) stability for assemblages than compositions; (iv) a recovery all metrics following drying events sites. Conclusion This study offers insight into rarely addressed question concerning among differing terms regimes. It suggests that will experience under scenarios, even sites remain perennial, resulting diversity. lack least-disturbed situations should be taken account when developing bioassessment tools based
