摘要: BACKGROUND: The consequences of temporary deferral are not well understood. This study sought to investigate blood donor return after expiration. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis allogeneic whole-blood donation was conducted. All deferred donors and a random sample eligible were identified from the year 2000, with subsequent center visits through December 2005 captured. Stratified results reported as percentage returning, rates return, time return. Measures statistical association Cox regression modeling reported. RESULTS: For first-time (FT) donors, 25 percent temporarily returned during 5-year follow-up period compared 47 (p < 0.0001); for repeat 81 86 returned, respectively 0.0001). Depending on category, 14 31 FT 58 90 returned. Rates (per year) successful 0.09 index-deferred 0.28 1.0 1.45 donors. Multivariate indicated that in addition deferral, age, sex, race, education associated both CONCLUSION: effects more pronounced than expected, affecting type duration while important, relevant hypothesized because so few suggesting need develop appropriate interventions recapture those likely be eligible. P ersons who present may deemed ineligible variety reasons related behavior medical conditions. Temporary deferrals applied protect either recipients or themselves. Although specificity these limited, they thought improve safety supply minimize adverse reactions Eight previous articles have investigated impactofdonorselectiononblooddonation.
