摘要: Modeling dynamic or kinetic friction for realistic engineering surfaces continues to be achallenge, partly due the coupling between system dynamics and interfacial forces. Inthis paper, a coefficient model rough under externalnormal vibrations is developed. From model, instantaneous timevarying normal separation at interface obtained harmonic excitation.Subsequently, contact tangential (friction) forces are cal-culated as function of separation. The coef-ficient defined ratio time varying thatexplicitly includes damping, also calculated. results show that meanincrease in may not lead decrease themean force mean coefficient, which supported by publisheddata. For unlubricated elastic sliding conditions considered this theeffect damping on found negligible, whereasloss causes significant apparent frictioncoefficient reductions. Several different interpretations fric-tion presented implications using simple constant value torepresent discussed.@DOI: 10.1115/1.1573229#
