摘要: Abstract Intracochlear optical stimulation has been suggested as an alternative approach to hearing prosthetics in recent years. This study investigated the properties of a near infrared laser (NIR) induced optoacoustic effect. Pressure recordings were performed at external meatus anaesthetized guinea pigs during intracochlear NIR stimulation. The sound pressure and power spectra determined. results compared multi unit responses inferior colliculus (IC). Additionally, IC by electric same cochlear position investigate potentially confounding contribution direct neural recorded (n = 7) had most frequencies below 10 kHz showed little variation for different sites. mean spike rates units responding (n = 222) 17 animals significantly correlated with externally signal corresponding best units. response strength well depended on pulse peak stimulus. reached levels above 70 dB SPL equivalent.
