摘要: Abstract The effect of hormones on the development Japanese quail during postembryonic period was examined. First, subcutaneous implants estradiol monobenzoate (EB) and testosterone propionate (TP) were implanted 6–12 hr after hatching. EB TP had no differentiation sexual behavior in genetic males or females. However, marked feminizing effects plumage males. Second, role gonadal examined by gonadectomizing females hatching treating them intramuscularly with as adults. EB-treated adult displayed typical female developed plumage. A significant proportion TP-treated (57%) male patterns. Cloacal gland male-type vocalizations induced. either patterns depending stimulus conditions. Third, to test whether bisexuality gonadectomized is maintained despite steroid treatment expression adulthood, which originally treated received vice versa. results indicate that absence remain bisexual until exposed estrogen, whereas retain behavioral irrespective prior estrogen androgen exposure.
