摘要: The phylogenetic position of crocodilians in relation to birds and mammals makes them an interesting animal model for investigating the evolution nervous system amniote vertebrates. A few neuroanatomical atlases are available reptiles, but with a growing interest these animals within comparative neurosciences, need anatomical reference templates is becoming apparent. With advent MRI being used more frequently neuroscience, aim this study was create three-dimensional MRI-based atlas Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) brain provide common template interpretation crocodilian, broadly reptilian, brain. Ex vivo acquisitions combination histological data were delineate crocodilian areas at telencephalic, diencephalic, mesencephalic, rhombencephalic levels. total 50 structures successfully identified outlined 3-D majority readily discerned forebrain methods produce atlas. anatomy herein corresponds both classical recent analyses, barring contention predominantly related lack functional conflicting nomenclature.
