摘要: Abstract Near-pristine surfaces of natural pentlandite have been characterized for the first time by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The Fe 2p, Ni S 2p and O is spectra are discussed. main feature interest found in spectrum where two major doublets found, one with a 2 p 3 binding energy 161.44 eV other at 162.19 eV. These interpreted as being due to sulphur 4-coordinate environment 5-coordinate environment, respectively. We obtained ratio 1 : 2.5 these species, reasonable agreement theoretical predicted from structure. Natural samples exposed de-ionized water periods 1.5 6 h. were oxidized give that rich iron oxyhydroxide species depleted nickel sulphur.
