摘要: The basic magnetotelluric (MT) impedance tensor transforms into a set of physical and geometrical parameters that maintain their validity regardless dimensionality. In two dimensions (2D), the traditional TM TE impedances rearrange an equivalent pair, series parallel, which complement each other together represent original tensor. relates to parallel counterpart TE. We show how series- parallel-impedance concepts can be applied in three (3D), overcoming some current limitations 2D concepts. response function is mainly affected by galvanic effects related with flow across interfaces, while more sensitive inductive associated along interfaces. An intrinsic most convenient property they do not depend on measuring axes, as individual elements, well case. directional sensitivity new representation provided angular complete equivalency. Formally, forward transformation operates over elements x–y domain, produces what called S–P where S stands for P parallel. existence inverse going from domain guaranties there no loss information when one other. illustrate performance quantities using computations multi-dimensional models inversions synthetic field data. © 2004 Elsevier B.V.
