Dementia - who cares?: A comparison of community needs and primary care services

摘要: Background Health professionals have varying levels of knowledge about, and interest in, providing dementia services. This article compares patient experiences in dealing with the perceived role health care providers care. Method Qualitative data from interviews patients their carers was compared quantitative professional surveys, where described attitudes toward, roles management. Results Patients often notice symptoms before general practitioner seek diagnosis support. Not all GPs wish to provide services many are unaware benefits early guidelines. Dementia forums attract older professionals, suggesting younger members less engaged care. Older tend consult GPs, but aware management guidelines. Discussion Patients turn GP for help may find most benefit assistance advice people who already negotiated pathways Health fail investigate presenting can delay diagnosis, denying intervention that could improve quality life both carer.
