摘要: Hair snares have been used in North and Central America for a long time assessment monitoring studies of several mammalian species. This method can provide cheap, suitable, efficient way to monitor mammals because it combines characteristics that are not present most alternative techniques. However, despite their usefulness, hair rarely other parts the world. The aim our study was evaluate effectiveness three scent lures (cinnamon, catnip, vanilla) detection felids one largest remnants Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We performed tests with six captive felid species - Panthera onca (Linnaeus, 1758), Leopardus pardalis L. tigrinus (Schreber, 1775), wiedii (Schinz, 1821), Puma concolor 1771), P. yagouaroundi (E. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1803) examine responses attractants, correlate those lure efficiency field. field were conducted at Parque Estadual Pico do Marumbi, state Parana, Brazil. traps placed on seven transects. There equal numbers each lure, total 1,551 trap-days. In captivity, vanilla provided greatest response, yet no detected any tested lures, although recorded. Based sampling non-target species, comparison similar elsewhere, this points possible caveat when rare or small populations concerned. Meanwhile, we believe improved could important results location others.
