摘要: Birds taking time off from breeding head for their favourite long-haul destinations. What oceanic seabirds do outside periods is something of a mystery, although altogether these “sabbaticals’ add up to more than half lifetime and are probably key feature life history. Here we use geolocation systems based on light-intensity measurements show that during wandering albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) leave the foraging grounds they frequent while specific, individual sectors spend rest year there — each bird returns same area throughout its life. This discovery home-range preferences season has important implications conservation threatened by development longline fisheries.
