摘要: Hebbian plasticity, a synaptic mechanism which detects and amplifies co-activity between neurons, is considered key ingredient underlying learning memory in the brain. However, plasticity alone unstable, leading to runaway neuronal activity, therefore requires stabilization by additional compensatory processes. Traditionally, diversity of homeostatic phenomena found neural circuits thought play this role. recent modelling work suggests that slow evolution as observed experiments, insufficient prevent instabilities originating from plasticity. To remedy situation, we suggest complemented rapid processes, rapidly stabilize activity on short timescales.
