摘要: Electromagnetic fluctuation-induced forces between atoms and surfaces are generally known as Casimir–Polder interactions. The exact knowledge of these is rapidly becoming important in modern experimental set-ups for technological applications. Recent theoretical investigations have shown that such an interaction tunable strength sign, opening new perspectives to investigate aspects quantum field theory condensed-matter physics. In this chapter we review the interactions a surface, paying particular attention physical characterization system. We also survey some recent developments concerning role temperature, situations out thermal equilibrium, measurements involving ultra-cold atoms.
