The long-run effects of mortality decline in developing countries

摘要: Since World War II, mortality has declined in the developing world. This paper examines effects of this decline on demographic and economic growth by a family-optimization model, which fertility is endogenous wealth yields utility through its status. The stimulates investment generates an income stream promotes population growth, but desire status hampers prevents capital-diluting expansion. If status-seeking strong, then decreases below original level.
