摘要: Iron oxide pigments may be an alternative treatment for limiting weathering of wood surfaces instead stains or clear coatings. An earlier study suggested the ability iron oxides to protect against discoloration varied with particle size. In this study, different crystal shapes and sizes were investigated along a carbon black pigment. Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) samples impregnated water borne dispersions, exposed predetermined amounts solar radiation in high desert Eastern Oregon, then evaluated discoloration, checking changes chemical composition. The results from observational suggest that much higher levels are required than previously thought prevent limit lignin degradation. Large led greater opacity provided protection, but no protected as well black. findings also had effect on checking, indicating mechanisms not directly related.
