摘要: Diagenetic reactions involving the decomposition of organic matter and dissolution, mobilization, reprecipitation metals sensitive to oxidation-reduction reactions, are most intense rapid in upper 1 m especially 10 cm marine sediment. It is this zone where benthic organisms live interact with sediments exchange rates dissolved particulate material between sediment overlying water largely determined. In Long Island Sound, U.S.A., both spatial temporal trends chemistry flux out bottom demonstrate control diagenesis by fauna. /sup 234/Th//sup 238/U disequilibrium studies that particle reworking near sediment-water interface vary temporally spatially Sound. The occurs protobranch-inhabited areas as do highest 234/Th inventories. Excess profiles allow determination selected diagenetic such Mn/sup + +/ production, surface. Both measurements indicate intra-estuarine redistribution continually takes place.
