摘要: Herbal medicine (HM) has been widely used to treat diseases for thousands of years and greatly contributed the health human beings. Many new drugs have developed from HM, such as artemisinin. However, artemisinin adverse effects, renal toxicity. In 1993, a study conducted in Belgium reported first time that root extracts Aristolochia obliqua S. M. Hwang led progressive interstitial fibrosis. The nephrotoxicity HM attracted worldwide attention. More than 100 kinds induce toxicity, including some herbs, animal HMs, minerals. This paper aimed summarize compounds cause nephrotoxicity, mechanisms underlying toxicity these compounds, biomarkers injury, prevention strategies. These findings provide basis follow-up studies on treatment nephrotoxicity.
