摘要: Phylogenomic and paleontological data constitute complementary resources for unraveling the phylogenetic relationships divergence times of lineages, yet few studies have attempted to fully integrate them. Several unique properties echinoids (sea urchins) make them especially useful such synthesizing approaches, including a remarkable fossil record that can be incorporated into explicit hypotheses. We revisit phylogeny crown group Echinoidea using total-evidence dating approach combines largest phylogenomic set clade, large-scale morphological matrix with dense sampling, novel compendium tip node age constraints. To this end, we develop method subsampling sets selects loci high signal, low systematic biases, enhanced clock-like behavior. Our results demonstrate combining different sources increases topological accuracy helps resolve conflicts between molecular data. Notably, present new hypothesis origin sand dollars, restructure stem in way implies long stretch undiscovered evolutionary history late Paleozoic. efforts help bridge gap phylogenomics paleontology, providing model example benefits two.
