摘要: Objective We investigated the benefits of a local preventive therapy based on copper beads against severe bone infection using rabbit open tibial fracture model. Materials and Methods Cotton mesh balls soaked in very high concentration Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 culture were inoculated drilled holes tibiae treated control groups. The group was also implanted with small simultaneously, as prevention therapy. Results Survival rate 67% compared 25% (difference 40%, for 95% confidence interval: 93.4%). few remaining animals had lesions which developed into osteomyelitis, while clear signs reparatory processes. Sixty days after inoculation, local-only toxicity observed healthy tibia separate non-infected group. Drawbacks weighed threat septicaemia prolonged use powerful systemic antibiotic medications contamination. Cinical Significance It found that proposed prevented spread infection, it induced findings this study may be relevant antisepsis fractures less appropriate medical settings (such military camps or remote locations), well infections.
