摘要: Abstract We have measured the depths, average diameters and circularity indices of over 600 micrometeoroid space debris impact craters formed in surfaces exposed to aboard Long Duration Exposure Facility satellite. The target had a variety orientations physical properties. depth-diameter ratio aluminum targets by nearly normal impacts is between 0.56 0.60, higher than canonical widely accepted value 0.50 which corresponds hemispherical shape. does not change significantly with Brinell hardness values 40 90, or velocity above 5 km s−1. found vary as roughly one-tenth power density. Less 10% examined major-to-minor axis ratios 1.5, consistent production shallow, elongated exclusively grazing impacts. variation for circular most likely results from projectile shapes.
