摘要: Background/Aim: Strenuous endurance training required to participate in the highest sports level has been associated with deleterious effects on elite athletes' health and cardiac abnormalities. We aimed describe overall mortality main causes of deaths male French rowers participating at least one Olympic Game (OG) from 1912 2012 comparison general population. Methods: Identity information vital status were validated by National sources 2013 (study's endpoint) among 203 rowers; 52 out 255 (20.3%) excluded because their statuses could not be confirmed. Main obtained registry 1968 up 2012. Overall disease-specific mortalities calculated through standardised ratios (SMRs) its 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The was for whole rowers' cohort (PT) two periods apart: (P1) including 1936 OG, a which all have deceased (P2) considering 1948 OG. Results: Among analysed, 46 died before study's endpoint, mainly neoplasms (33%), cardiovascular diseases (21%) external (18%). PT demonstrates significant 42% lower (SMR: 0.58, CI: 0.43–0.78, p<0.001), P1 37% reduction 0.63, 0.43–0.89, p = 0.009) P2 60% 0.40, 0.23–0.65, p<0.001) compared compatriots. Mortality due is significantly reduced 0.41, 0.16–0.84, p = 0.01) rowers. Conclusions: benefit population. death, are relation Analytical studies larger samples needed understand reasons such reductions.
