摘要: Abstract Background . Deep sternotomy wound infections during the neonatal period, their management utilizing pectoralis major muscle flap (PMF), and follow-up are reported. Methods Seven hundred-twenty consecutive pediatric cardiac operations performed from 1995 to mid 1998 in 108 neonates 612 infants reviewed. Nine children (1.25%), 6 3 infants, developed deep underwent PMF reconstruction. The Their includes growth development reports, physical examination, computerized tomographic scans of chest. Results incidence sternal complications our patients (5.5%, 108) was significantly higher than infantile group (0.5%, 612), ( p = 0.0001, odds ratio=11.94). Five were treated with a unilateral, turnover One patient by bilateral rotational PMF. All wounds healed successfully, all survived. In ranging 31 months (mean 16.5 months), operated as expected for age. There no signs chronic infection any them. Conclusions Early recognition should facilitate surgical treatment. Utilizing promotes rapid healing preservation life these severely ill neonates, minimal developmental problems.
