Taxonomic comments on the genus Menoidium (Euglenozoa), with a description of Menoidium intermedium sp. nov.

摘要: Summary The genus Menoidium Perty (Rhabdomonadina, Euglenozoa) is currently chaotic as a result of (1) consideration diagnostic features in several species that are absent the type species, M. pellucidum Perty, (2) deliberate transfers from other genera to , and (3) ignorance about stability/variability characters under diverse environmental conditions. By comparatively studying strains cultures various conditions, we aimed investigate morphological plasticity identify criteria could allow for exact identification species. This framework was used assess validity previously described In conjunction with recent molecular data, re-evaluated by presenting lists doubtful (28 taxa) well-described (9 taxa), respectively. A new key presented latter. On basis structural re-examinations cell structure cultures, intermedium nomen nudum validated.
