Speech recognition as a function of the number of electrodes used in the SPEAK cochlear implant speech processor

摘要: Speech recognition was measured in listeners with the Nucleus-22 SPEAK speech processing strategy as a function of number electrodes. stimuli were analyzed into 20 frequency bands and processed according to usual strategy. In normal clinical processor each electrode is assigned represent output one filter. To create reduced-electrode processors several adjacent filters directed single electrode, resulting 1, 2, 4, 7, 10, The overall spectral bandwidth preserved, but active electrodes progressively reduced. After 2-day period adjustment processor, performance on medial consonants, vowels, monosyllabic words, sentences. Performance poor all listeners, average increased dramatically test materials from 1 4. No differences observed any 7-, 10-, 20-electrode conditions. On sentence consonant tests there no difference between 4-electrode processors. This pattern results suggests that cochlear implant are not able make full use information Further research necessary understand reasons for this limitation how increase amount received by implanted listeners.
