摘要: Microbial mats are intrinsically important to microbial ecology because many of the characteristics describing quantitative and qualitative relationships between constructing microorganisms their aquatic environments occur over vertical sections a few millimeters or, at most, centimeter. Their fossilized counterparts, stromatolites, found in parts world (Schopf, 1983). However, there spectacular examples large very ancient stromatolite structures accompanying wellpreserved fossil Australia 1968; Oehler, 1976, 1978; Oehler et al., 1979; Walter 1980; Walter, 1983; Awramik Schopf 1987). Contemporary interest biology is indicated by presentation 75 contributions two recent international conferences that were concerned specifically with (Cohen 1984; Cohen Rosenberg, 1989). Various kinds Australian coastal environments; however, cyanobacterial diatomaceous most extensive thoroughly investigated. In this review, we have taken encompass embayments, estuaries, lakes. We also included coral reefs, since these habitats significant features environments.
