Room-temperature gelcasting of alumina with a water-soluble copolymer

摘要: A novel and simple method for gelcasting of alumina was developed using a nontoxic water-soluble copolymer isobutylene maleic anhydride (commercially called Isobam). In this method, there is requirement only small amount Isobam (0.3 wt%) neither initiators nor dispersants are needed preparation gelation 50 vol% solids loaded slurry. The rate increased with increasing loading but decreased content. typical time 38 min the slurry containing 0.3 wt% Isobam. resultant wet gel strong enough to allow reversible bending twisting. This gelling system attractive forming ceramics because single additive, which acts as both dispersant agent at room temperature in air, used.
