摘要: Abstract This article offers a summary of past efforts in the development Nuclear Thermal Propulsion systems for space transportation. First, generic principle thermal propulsion is outlined: propellant directly heated by power source prior to being expanded which creates thrusting force on rocket. enables deriving motivation use (NTP) relying nuclear sources. Then, major families NTP established basis literature survey. These are distinguished nature their source, most important with radioisotope, fission, and fusion cores. Concepts proposing harness annihilation matter anti-matter only touched briefly due limited maturity. For each family, an overview physical fundamentals, technical concepts, – if available tested engines' parameters given.
