摘要: BACKGROUND Singapore is becoming a world-class research hub, promoting the advancement of patient care through translational clinical research. Despite growing evidence internationally positive impact public involvement (PPI), in PPI remains unusual beyond participation as subjects studies. OBJECTIVE To explore health researchers' understandings principles, role and scope PPI, to identify barriers opportunities for implementation Singapore. DESIGN Semi-structured qualitative interviews between April July 2018. Data were analysed using thematic framework analysis. RESULTS Whilst most participants (n = 20) expressed lack experience interview process provided an opportunity reflection which it emerged beneficial strategy. Interviewees highlighted both utilitarian ethical reasons implementing particularly around increasing relevance efficiency In addition those challenges documented existing literature, others specific Singaporean context that make at individual level unlikely be successful, including socio-political environment prevailing social professional hierarchies. They also identified asset-based strategies overcome these, particular, more community-oriented approach.
